Tobacco use is a leading cause of numerous life-threatening diseases, including various cancers, chronic respiratory conditions like COPD and tuberculosis, heart diseases, and complications during pregnancy. Globally over 8 million deaths annually, with approximately 2 million attributed to cancer. Notably, around 85% of lung cancer deaths are linked to smoking.
In India, an estimated 20,01,140 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in 2024 and 6,11,720 people are death. Oral cancer emerged as the most prevalent type, constituting nearly one-third (2,770 cases) of all cases.
